Dear Dancing Community Many thanks to the 19 studios that entered. The competition would not have been successful without your support. The atmosphere was absolutely exciting with the studios actively supporting the dancers. The open marking was positively received by the Championship dancers. The Eskom load shedding did not dampen spirits and the competitors perservered through dimmed lights. The Organisers will learn from this for future events of this nature. Many thanks for sponsorships received, it always makes a difference in our dancers lives. Thanks to ALL for your wonderful support. The results are attached. See you at the next SADF Super Series Championship in NW on 8 August 2015. RESULTS_SADF WC SUPER SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP_27JUN15_

Dear Studio Owner / Managers and Members… Trust that you are all doing well….both personally and in business…?! Attached is the Poster for the SADF WC Social Championship….scheduled for 06 June 2015…! As per our last communiqué in February 2015…the first quarter of 2015 within the SADF - called for major restructuring; as well as the development and implementation of various infrastructures. Mark Engelbrecht (National Social Faculty Convener) has not disappointed – and managed to (within a very short time) deliver on probably the most exciting products ever – on offer at the SADF WC Social Faculty…. American Style Syllabus Feedback on the progress of the American Style Syllabus will be shared in due course Competitive ProAm Division infrastructures to ensure an effective and functional platform for the Competitive ProAm Division; to showcase the best of our social dancers – are in progress. We have made rapid progress with regard to the implementation of the processes below..!The necessary Point System for Competitive ProAm The Competitive ProAm Division has adapted a point system – similar to that of the competitive dance faculty; in that all promotions work on a point system, through placings – in order to advance through the relevant grades. The Point System procedure will be distributed separately for your ease of reference National Colours It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the introduction of National Colours for Competitive ProAm Dancers…! This means that the SA Champions for the top Novice Competitive ProAm Sections (all 4 sections: smooth, standard, latin and rhythm) – be awarded National “JUNIOR” colours on an annual basis – starting 01st December 2015. In time this will be expanded to also include Pre-Championship and Championship Colours. The Championship colours will be considered FULL colours. A prerequisite for FULL colours will be, to have represented South Africa in an international dance competition… We wish to encourage all Novice Competitive ProAm Dancers to compete at the current scheduled SADF sanctioned ‘competitive’ competitions – and join the SADF on this exciting journey to achieve this ultimate goal in the sport of dancing…! Further details on this will be distributed in due course SADF WC Social Provincial Championships We are extremely excited to present the annual SADF WC Social Provincial Championship which is scheduled for 06 June 2015 – at the beautiful Rusticana in Klapmuts. This event promises to be an exciting day filled with awesome competition and dance entertainment… Professional Workshop In tandem with the above Provincial Championships - we are delighted to confirm our Professional Workshop with Tyrone Watkins on 07 June 2015. This workshop will focus on the various styles of choreography and promises to be a day packed with knowledge…skill and fun..! Please ensure the timeous registration of your Studio and Students – in order to participate in these exciting events… Dance Cruise – MSC Sinfonia – April 2016 This is a reminder that the correspondence for the second intake for this cruise will be distributed by the last week in May 2015. It is imperative that you communicate the upcoming intake to your students in advance – as once the correspondence is distributed – we will have only 10 days to do the bookings and pay deposits… (as before) Unfortunately no pricing is available until the quote comes through in May – however – what remains unchanged…is the R3000 deposit – per cabin. As stated before – this cruise is not only for SADF members…. So – please invite your students…their family…their friends…and anybody who loves dancing…! Remember – this is about promoting social dancing….about creating an awareness around how we can make a difference in the lives of those around us - through dancing…! To show the public that dancing is not just about competing – but about finding confidence in yourself….living a healthy life through dancing...having loads of fun and meeting new friends…! Please look out for the next communiqué on this...and in the meantime….start spreading the news….we are looking for a name for our ‘cruise’… And there is an awesome price up for grabs – to the winner…!!! This cruise is going to rock…! Please feel free to contact me – should you need clarity on any of the above….OR feel free to share your input…!!!!! Warm regards… Ray Hill Chairperson: SADF Social Faculty: Western Cape Cell: 076 302 3278 Email: paarl@dancedomain.co.za

MESSAGE FROM THE SADF NATIONAL CHAIRMAN
BELOVED Dancers, Teachers, Parents, Supporters and Organisers,
I am once more excited and honoured to welcome all of you to the 80th Chapter of the South African Open Dance Championships, featuring the Competitive, Social, Disco/Freestyle and Traditional Faculties of SADF. Our most sincere appreciation to ALL our dancers who have journeyed from all over the country and our neighboring states of Botswana and Lesotho, to come and contest for the South African Dance TITLES. Broadly speaking, the committed and dedicated team of officers of the South African Dance Foundation forms the backbone of the success of our ORGANISATION. The team excels and makes the SADF tasks a pleasant journey.
The objectives and achievements of the various Branches and Faculties are annually detailed separately and respectively, however, please allow me to mention some specific performance highlights: -
-
During the 2014 WDC Meetings, the SADF achieved Membership of WDC AL which will broaden opportunities for our dancers, more importantly the international trends and standards,
-
The SADF Super Series, with its three legs strongly entrenched, are now geared up to become Title Events with the 2015 Dancing Calendar looking exciting,
-
Our AMBASSADORS in both the amateur and professional ranks have held the country’s flag high, understanding the pride of our country’s national colours whilst representing the country at the different dance championships across the universe,
-
The SADF promoted a healthy Collaborative spirit, with its sister Faculties and Branches having shared platforms through developments workshops and at competitions such as this, where all our Faculties are able to UNITE for a common cause,
-
The Membership Growth in general, has made significant improvements, New Office Bearers, the BOD, which also serves as EXCO, Branches and Faculties are in their new term of office
-
Our IT System, with the LAUNCH of the new SADF website already up and running is a testimony of our willingness to share as much knowledge and information with our members thruogh technology. We therefore edge you to regularly visit the website and enjoy all reports and offerings that are brought to you by the SADF,
Regardless of the continued differences and difficulties which we usually stumble against in order to achieve our Vision, which is “One powerful and proactive voice representing all forms of dance in South Africa, able to interact with financial partners and the larger world of dance, to create an enabling environment for the development of dance at all levels and the success of every individual on the national and international stage”
Our vision remains clear.- We want to build an organisation where all our dancers enjoy decent dancing opportunities, which has a clear echelon that builds from individuals to groups to provincial organisation, to national organisation and to International, having a vibrant financial support, free and fair. Although the responsibility lies with the entrusted officers, we all have a responsibility to work hard to collectively make that a reality. It is therefore important that everyone think of how they can contribute towards that campaign which will in turn create opportunities for them and others as well.
To our deciding panel of judges, comperes, scrutineer, music operator, runners and the event oversee, your support services are very key as the success of this event will only be judged and reviewed by our audience, the public and the media once you have demonstrated integrity and excellence. A special welcome to Ms Anne Lingard from England, who also serve as the Secretary of the ISTD Competitive Faculty. We are delighted for her presence as the Chairperson of Judges.
To the organisers, lead by the Foundation’s CEO Ms. Marion Baxter, thank you for your selfless efforts and continued commitments. To the Board of Directors of SADF, thank you for your valued support, however I wish to remind you to always remember the promises we made to our dancers, the steps we need to continue taking. To that, I count on you and all other South Africans to work closely with the SADF in KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE. All the best and
THANK YOU
